Gloucester Drift Tricks reimagined the traditional skatepark as a piece of skateable public space in the heart of Gloucester’s Kings Square. Designed for Gloucester City Council in collaboration with structural engineer Bedir Bekar, the project combined bespoke concrete features, custom precast elements and carefully crafted street-inspired obstacles to create a unique riding experience that rewarded creativity, progression and exploration.
The acid-washed concrete stepping stones and ledges were designed to capture the look and feel of authentic street skate spots while providing a durable and intuitive riding environment.
Installed within the city centre, the obstacles created an accessible and highly visible skate destination that blurred the boundary between public realm and skatepark. Working alongside the Drift Trick features introduced the previous year, the scheme offered an exciting and varied skating experience for the local community.
Following a successful period in Kings Square, the obstacles were relocated to Gloucester Skatepark, where they continue to serve as permanent features and remain an enduring part of the city's skateboarding offer.
