HAINAULT

Hainault Skatepark is located in the London Borough of Redbridge, on the site of a former prefabricated facility that was in urgent need of refurbishment. From the outset, Betongpark worked closely with local users and the council, while also considering how the project could complement the wider network of skateparks across London.

The design prioritises the use of open, flat space to provide optimal run-up and roll-away areas between elements, rather than overcrowding the park with multiple obstacles. Distinct zones are incorporated throughout, including a plaza section featuring flat bar rails and feature granite ledges, low-level street-inspired features such as kerbs, rails and hubbas, and faster-paced upper-level transition areas. The park is arranged across three levels, allowing users to build speed and experience clearly defined riding zones.

The project includes a range of bespoke details across the scheme. The concrete riding surface makes extensive use of stencil-textured imprints, which create sound and subtle vibration when ridden over. Custom concrete pool coping blocks and kerbs, supplied by CLINKER, are integrated throughout the park. A cohesive red colour palette ties the various zones together, giving the new public facility in Hainault a strong and distinctive identity.
