King George V Park takes an underused and dilapidated tarmac space and turns it into a skatepark heavily inspired by real street dropped into the heart of Beckton. Instead of filling the site with standard skatepark features, the design focuses on a carefully selected mix of obstacles that create endless possibilities for lines, tricks and street style skating.
At the centre of the park is a concrete driveway, with blended flat bank and quarterpipe hips. The raised tarmac levels and even flat zones around this central element set users up perfectly with speed and run-up. In the sprawling areas around the perimeter of this site there are a host of individual street style elements, including CLINKER slappy kerbs, a bespoke steel jersey barrier, custom steel rails and a granite wallie block.. A series of two-tier ledge and manual pad combinations link the space together, creating multiple routes through the park and rewarding both flow and experimentation.
The material palette is simple and built to last. Newly laid and smooth asphalt riding surfaces are paired with granite, steel and CLINKER brick details that not only perform well but develop character through use. The result is a skatepark that feels authentic from day one - more like an spot that's evolved naturally over time than a conventional collection of standalone obstacles.
